I am trying to configure a HSMM-Mesh router to work with a Ubiquiti Bullet.

For this particular application I must use a static ip and bridge into a 10.0 network. I set the HSMM configuration page WAN settings to the IP I have been assigned by the network I am bridging into (10.0.2.xx) mask 255.255.0.0 along with the gateway/DNS (10.0.0.xx). I also have Gateway selected.

The Bullet is plugged into the WAN jack and my computer into one of the 4 ports. This works perfectly - I am able to surf the net and ping resources on the 10 network.

The problem is when add a second router and attempt to do this wireless. With the computer plugged into one of the 4 ports on the second router pings return with an unreachable message and I am unable to surf.

If I change the gateway router's WAN to DHCP and connect it to my home network router it works as expected - I can surf and ping wireless (via the 2 routers).

I am looking for suggestions on what to try.

Ill take this one Dave..... :-) Rich, I tried doing the exact same config (on a 10.0.0.X LAN network) here at my QTH. The issue is with routing, the mesh nodes think the 10.X.X.X is the wifi links. Everything got very confused when trying to talk across, because you need to assign a gateway from the LAN to the Wifi networks, and being on the same 10.X just didnt work. What I ended up doing (PIA as it was) was changing my entire LAN network to a 192.168.X.X, then adding the gateway (LAN IP of the mesh node physically connected to the network) to the routing tables on equipment I wanted to talk to the mesh. Now I can sit at my PC, on the LAN, and look out across the Mesh and hit links, etc. Also, adding the GW/routes to the linux servers allows mesh participants to hit my servers and services on the LAN. With mine, instead of connecting the LAN to the WAN port on the mesh node, I connected to a LAN port, then in setup DISABLE the WAN, and when you do that, you will notice a GATEWAY box appear under the LAN settings. This might get you closer. Let me/us know on here how it goes, as Im sure we are not the only 2 trying this :-) 73! Jim K5KTF

Jim: Thank you for your reply and sorry about my late reply. This past week was our bi-annual Nuclear power plant exercise and I was hoping to use the hsmm-mesh routers along with the Ubiquiti bullet for the network. I ended up using a router loaded with dd-wrt. All I needed was a wireless link from the standalone 5.8 GHz receiver/router to the inside of the EOC. This configuration did work. I really want to get this working with the hsmm routers for ease of setting up a local network though. I also tried running the dd-wrt router into a mesh router but I could not get that working in the time I had. Is this a possibility? As I understand your reply I need to change the 10 network I am bridged in to to something else - correct? The 10 net I am using is something my ARES/RACES group has put together to link various repeater sites together as well as to provide network a stand alone network for the usual such as email. Changing the network from 10 to something else may be a possibility (for other reasons than mine). Thank you and 73 Rich KE3HG
