Topic : How to view a IP Camera on my node?

Hi There;

Got a IP Address camera on one router (Mesh) configured and shows a camera service on that node, How I'm able to view de images or video real time from that camera? Do I have to install another firmware to be able to access that camera?

Topic : Can't Get Signal to the Neighbor

I have two WRT54G routers configured with Hamnet - both in my home.  They seem to be running correctly and they see each other normally.  One is upstairs with a 20dB gain yagi connected to one antenna port and the other antenna port has the original antenna on it.

The yagi is pointed out a window toward my closest ham neighbor - clear line of site about 1/2 mile away.

In the house the Hamnet signal is the strongest signal present, beating my two in-home WiFi channels.  However, if I go out at the edge of the property (200') inline with the direction the yagi is pointing  with my laptop running a WiFi sniffer app the Hamnet signal doesn't make it any further than the regular WiFi signals, let along a half mile.

My understanding of this stuff is pretty weak but I was expecting to get a strong SSID broadcast off the end of that yagi - but it appears not.

I need some tips....

Thanks

Yes, still interested although after scoping out my QTH is not a very good location, I'm kind of low.  I'll need to get some others involved to have decent coverage.

Joe, I can't see much at ground level. But I think that I can get enough height for the antenna to be able to see the buildings in center city.

John, it never really formed. I've got a bullet with a vertical omni on my rooftop but our wooded terrain doesn't support long paths. There is a RocketM5 on the roof of Fair Acres in Lima, Delaware County but it's pointed the wrong way for you. What do you see across the river? Joe

Topic : Newbee checking in

Hi all, thanks for having this forum.

I have all of the components needed to get "on the air" just overcoming inertia.

I have a NanoStationLoco and over 700 feet of cat5 outdoor wire (grey)

I have a WRT54GL with Hamnet firmware installed and several hundred feet of RG6 coax and a 15db gain vertical antenna.

And I have 2 Xeon servers running Ubuntu Server with GUI.

I see one station on Googlemaps that I might be able to hit.

So please tell me to get off my a$$ and get to work.

I have many questions however. Even though I'm a retired Unix sysadmin I am very rusty since that was almost 30 years ago.

For openers, where does the DHCP take place? What do I have to do? Which IP addresses?

Thanks for any comments and support. 73, Jim W3FAW

Topic : Shack LAN access for WRT54 BBHN node?

Hello All,

I got a WRT54G at Hamvention this year and after updating and basically setting it up thru the WAN port, I am trying to find a way to connect to it thru wired Ethernet. I have an old 5 plus uplink port Cisco hub that I using to bring the Internet to a couple of Raspberry PIs in the shack. I would like to find some way of getting the internet to it so that I can play with packages. I tried to connect the WAN port to one of the five ports on the hub but although the node seemed to realize it was connected to something, neither my router nor my PIs can see it. I thought this would work because it is my understanding that the WAN port has a DHCP client to facilitate internet connected nodes. Does the node WAN port not accept incoming connections?

I would like to have my node connected to my shack LAN so that I can admin it from all of my computers and have unencrypted internet access on it for package management and possibly tunneling.

Basically you just have to flash the device with the older firmware before you can flash it with the BBHN software. I got nervous the first time I did it but after 3 nodes now it is easy.

Topic : EdgeRouter X as Tunnel Server

Good Evening Everyone!

First off, if this has been answered someplace else, I appologize for not being able to find it. My google-fu appears to have failed me this evening.

I live in the middle of rural northern Wisconsin and am looking to setup a tunnel server to allow some other rural, out of RF range hams to connect to my Mesh network in order for us to play/drum up interest in the system in the hopes that other hams in the area will become interested once they see the system in action.

What I'm wondering is this. I have an EdgeRouter X as my home router (core router if you will) and it currently is acting as an OpenVPN server (listening on interface vtun0) for my home network and does a reasonable job at it. I'm also sure I can add other virtual tunnel interfaces (vtun1 for example) that the Mesh Tunnel server could listen in on. I'm just wondering about the particulars of the tunnel server/client (protocol, etc) and if anyone else has already done this and could point me in the right direction that would be awesome as well!

Anyway, I hope everyone is having a great evening!

Thanks and 73,

de W9HDG

Hi,

I put up a new node today on channel 1 and saw someone playing around with a bunch of nodes around 6pm today. They look like they are down now, but on the off chance that you read this, drop me a line.
