The SARA group in Owosso, MI used HSMM-MESH with N3FJP FD Logging software for the 2013 Field Day event. We had five stations operating on four nodes and things worked "as advertised". We posted some links and setup a couple of HSMM web pages with lots of details for configuration.  Start with http://www.w8qqq.org/hsmm.htm and then see the SARA HSMM file links at the bottom of the page.
